Jura Crest Trail

I use to hike the Jura Crest Trail in my typical style: Big miles and long hours.

I absolutely love this trail. By now I have done all sections several times. During lockdown or quarantine in spring 2020 I even started right at my doorstep and did kind of an approach trail along the airport to Dielsdorf, where the trail starts.

The landscape in the Jura in north-western Switzerland is breathtaking. I like it more than the impressive Alps in Switzerland. It just leaves you with the impression to be much more out in nature.

In the Alps there are far too many touristy towns, where I don’t feel comfortable as a somehow serious hiker. Some steep inclines in the Jura may be tedious, but usually you are on top again after half an hour.

Fans of military history can find some ugly bunkers and tank barriers along the way.

And even memorials for antifascist resistance during the second world war, when brave women and men saved lives by smuggling people into at the time save Switzerland.

While the JCT does not cross into Risoud forest, I highly recommend a visit when you cross Le Pont on the JCT.
